An open cage of painted metal hung on a chain, with three or four lights clustered inside so the frame throws patterned shadows onto the ceiling. It suits a dining table, kitchen island or restaurant booth, where the exposed bulbs become part of the look.

• Chain suspension: shorten the drop by removing links to suit your ceiling. As a guide, hang 75-90 cm (30-36 in) above a dining table.
